are there any topics you want discussed?

Hi guys, so I know a lot of people have veiwed the Jimi Hendrix posts and the Tattoos posts quite often.
Want i want to know is, is there anything you want to ask or know about that I can help you with? I should really write on this more often so I'll give you a quick update so far:

I've started my Masters in Drama and Performance in UCD and so far am loving it. I have just been so busy with reading and writing little tasks.

Auditons are slow and have pretty much stopped. My last audition was for The Sea and needless to say I didn't get it. I was a little disappointed as it would be shooting in my home town, but if it's not meant to be then it isn't meant to be. What can you do eh? x

I have been working on a few shorts, one for a local company in wexford which was so much fun! It was sort of a thriller themed shoot, so it was quite creepy! and when it is completely ok to release it to the internet I'll probably write a post on it.

I still haven't seen any edits of Cuckoo episodes 3 or 4, so that's kinda disappointing... but we shall just be patient! Once they are completed I'll make myself a showreel and include the shorts I did, then naturally; post it here...

Well basically all I'm doing now is waiting for another call, another audition or another job. Acting is such a hard career because of the uncertainty of it all. But hey! you gotta love it!

So guys if there are any questions I'd be happy to answer them or even ask some casting directors for you!! xx

Thank you for reading!

Self taping an audition

Oh gee... I seriously hate self-taping for an audition because you have time to analyze and stress. The worst thing about self taping an audition is having one day to do it...

I had one day to self tape an audition for a short film because the actual audition was a good while away and I had somewhere to be that night which was extremely important for me. So I got my sides and realized straight away, this is something I can't do on my own. So ensue another dilemma... My boyfriend who is doing media studies is in Wexford, I'm in Dublin... so he's out. My brother had just returned to Wexford the day before.. so he's a nope too.. I couldn't exactly get my grandmother to do it so my last and only option was Dramsoc...

Oh let me tell you there are not a lot of people willing to give up their day to help you. That's a fact!! Luckily I had a good friend in Dramsoc who would read with me and hold the camera... but only after 6pm... My audition needed to be done and uploaded by the next morning at the latest.

So fine, it was the best I could hope for. But doing a scene is so hard when you self tape because you can't just relax. You're gonna do the scene, then watch the play back then do it again and again.. it's really time consuming! and Then you feel bad for taking up other's time.  But I got it done after about 4 hours... (4 scenes in total) and I uploaded and sent it off.

I would totally prefer to go to the audition but sometimes that's just not possible.

My only advice so far is so find a very well lit room and use a good camera. If you need to hire a studio for an hour or two then you should do it, if you get the part it could be worth it. I'm not sure about filming it in the context that the script states, e.g., if it's a kitchen scene, film it in the kitchen. I will ask a few casting directors about this and see what they come back to me with.

Have you ever self-taped? any advice?

Peach out.

what to do in an audition (from experience from audtioning in ireland)

So I thought I'd start making more of these posts that a lot of people want to know about. so if anyone has any questions they'd like answered please tweet me @appeleyes2 and I'll put up a post or I will reply to your tweet with the answers.

So let's begin with, what to do in an audition and in this post I will include the preparation and the actual audition.

Scenario 1:
Ok, so lets presume you were asked to attend an audition, and lets presume they have asked you to prepare a monologue:

Find a monologue that suits your age and your characteristics. So if you're more into comedy do something funny. And likewise if you think dramatic monologues are more comfortable for you to perform then choose a dramatic one.

There are plenty of male monologues out there, and there is loads of ones for women too. Males I'd suggest anything from Shakespeare's plays (likewise women) but also some good monologues can be found in Howie the Rookie and Terminus (Mark O'Rowe-irish actors), also there's Enda Walsh's Disco Pigs and Conor McPherson's Rum and Vodka.

Women there are two characters in Terminus (Mark O'Rowe) a young(B) and older character (A). Also there are good monologues in Brian Friel's Faith Healer. But I'd definitley recommend Sarah Kane's works (mostly 4.48 psychosis) and also Caryl Churchill. She rights brilliantly for female actors. and Billy Roche too writes amazing female roles.

Those are just a few suggestions.

Then read the monologue and learn it off.

Do it in the mirror. 100 times. or a 1000 times. however long it takes until you stop acting and actually start being the character.

The most important thing I can offer here is to learn your lines. Know your character. Read the whole play. This will help greatly!!!

Your audition starts when you walk in the door. Be confident. Find something in your character that you can identify with and so you will be that character. The director/casting director will introduce themselves then they will chat a bit and then they will ask you to start in your own time.

Do it. Do it with confidence. Do it with Style.

and then they will thank you. and you will leave. that is the end of your audition!!

Good luck!!

Scenario two: Getting sides from the script.

if you have an agent they will no doubt have sent you sides (pieces of the script with your character's lines on it for the audition).

learn your lines! always always learn your lines!!!!

Then it's pretty much the same as above. Practice loads and do it with confidence!

90% of auditions you will go on will reject you. For not being the right height, weight, body type, hair colour, eye color, anything at all!!!

This game is all about rejection. The best thing to do is to stay positive, relax and enjoy your experience. Try feel good after your audition and put it to the back of your mind, maybe even treat yourself afterwards! I find this helps loads! get yourself a lil desert or ice cream or whatever you want. you've earned it after all that work!!

Best of luck!!!!!

What make up do you wear to an audition??

So guys I have had a few questions about what make up to wear to an audition and my advice?

none....or barely any

The idea behind this is that if they wanted to see you in eyeliner and red lips they will hire a make up artist to do that! They want to see you and your natural look for the part, no matter what part it is. Your natural beauty is always better!!

So what I suggest:

I'm quite fair-haired so I use a little eyebrow filler and some Mascara (Christian Dior Extase).
My foundation routine is very simple too, I use MAC Face and Body in the colour N1. It's the lightest and honestly I've never had a better foundation. I will most likely do a review on this soon as I think it may just be in my list of Actor's Essentials (new blogpost coming soon!)

So keep it simple. If you have dark hair then all you might need is just a small bit of foundation (DON'T CAKE IT ON!!!... use more of a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone), and possibly a little bit of concealer.

I always wear as little make up as possible because they can always change it with their own make up artists.

(In terms of hair, just wear what you are most comfortable with, I prefer my hair up, but my hair is strawberry blonde and curly so I quite like to show it off as I think it sets me apart from a lot of dark haired actresses out there, so I'd compromise and put the hair around my face and just clip it away and leave the rest really natural. I would always just recommend that you go in as natural as you can be. They can always change it.)

Comment below if you have any more questions on how to go or approach and audition.

Thanks for reading!! xx

Total Recall

So I was lucky enough to get two tickets to the Total Recall Premier in Dublin!! Oh the stars looked absolutely wonderful!

We were given the opportunity to walk the red carpet or just sneak in. Of course there was a big part of me that wanted to walk the red carpet but I didn't want to be the one that nobody knows and is just walking the red carpet because she can. When I walk the red carpet I want to do it as a known and recognised actor not some shmo...

Anyway! we were escorted in and asked to take our seats as the stars arrived. It was very cool. Once we were all seated the lovely celebs (Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and her husband Len Wiseman) came down to the front of the cinema to talk a bit about the film and say that you all for coming. And then.. they left. So that was all the exciting hollywood glamour about the event!!!!

But the movie was really great. It was action packed and extremely well interpreted from the original script, with just a few in jokes (not nearly as much as I would have liked). There's a really specific sequence in it that really reminded me of Naughty Dog's UNCHARTED... ha!

So all in all it was an extremely fabulous event! I was so excited to see Kate and Jessica! Stars that I totally admire and aspire to be as successful as! i couldn't get any nice pictures so I'll  just rob some here off the internet from the papers!!!

Oh so fabulous!!!

can you be an actor with tattoos?

Ok so I thought I'd share my thoughts on actors with tattoos as my brother is trying to be an actor (much like myself! What can I say, twin see twin do) and he's got a large tattoo that covers some of his upper left chest and his shoulder down to his elbow. So it's kind of half a sleeve. Now don't get me wrong the tattoo is pretty cool and I actually really like it. But does this affect his chances as an actor?

In short yes. But if the movie is modern enough then no not really. I think the acting business seems more lenient to tattoos nowadays and it doesn't seem to be a problem. The only time it would be a real problem would be in period films.

Now in ireland unfortunately the only things (well mostly) that are filming at the minute are period pieces such as Vikings and Game of Thrones. But tattoos are easily covered with clothing, and if it comes down to it, there's always make up. I've heard it could take hours to cover it up but I think that if you're the right actor for the part then of course they won't hesitate to hire you and sort the tattoos out later.

Are any of you actors with tattoos? have you come across many problems?

*update

if you're looking for a good make up product to cover tattoos check this out. you can always say this to the director who is casting you, that you would have your own products to cover it.

NDA

Ok lovelies... so I can't disclose what happened on set on Monday and tuesday but I will say these few things:

Being a special extra doesn't mean you have to wait around less! You'll still be hanging out on a dining bus for about 8 hours of your day!

The casting of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix is magical and that casting agent deserves a medal!

The actors were extremely cool and sound and didn't mind hanging out or talking to us if they weren't busy

It's a very small world and you'll be surprised at how many people you know or have seen before on set!

Andre's hairstylist is the loveliest person! I want to keep him for my own!!

Hair and make up were lovely but sheesh the back-combing and high hairstyles and hairspray can be very sore!

and finally, the food on a movie set is amazing! and there is plenty of it!

Overall it was great fun hanging out with everyone and chatting and meeting new people!!

Thats a wrap!

(sorry there wasn't much in this post but I signed an NDA which is a nondisclosure form and basically says i'm not really allowed to talk about what went on or what we filmed. understandable for a big film like that. but all extras will need to sign an NDA on any film so expect to be filling in forms when you're an extra!)

CUTTING to the chase.. Jimi hendrix film

So my fitting was more than a fitting!!! They fit me in a fabulous mini dress but the big shock was when I was carted around to find the producer and the hair stylist to decide if I was a good match to play a special extra. So I'd have no lines but I'd play a person who is a real person! So I had to look right! And apparently I do look like her! So they cut it!

As I was being shown around trying to find the producer I was brought on set and was able to watch Andre do a couple of takes of a scene! Exciting! And then he smiled at me and I smiled back! And later on he would sit beside me as I got my hair cut and he got his restyled for a different scene! So that was cool! It was only for like two mins tho so no words were exchanged! But he's nice! And he has a nice smile!

Anyway so they cut a fringe into my hair! Any guesses as to who I will be impersonating?

Jut another day... Another 9pm phone call?? Jimi hendrix calling!

So, I'm in London. Culling and hanging with the family. My poor grandmother has just been to surgery and had a pacemaker fitted and do that was a bit of a roller coaster for her. But she's home now and doing well (after a small blip yesterday when she was taken to hospital by ambulance due to pains!) but she's home and well (pains probably just due to bruising during surgery says doc). But other than that she's doing well and rocking the world at 84! Go nana!!! (she's my idol!) But anyway, on to the blog post! Last night I got a missed call from a number I did not recognise. I only knew it was a Dublin number. So I called back (abandoning the reasoning that if they really want me they will ring me back... I'll never take that risk!)... And it was Armore studios! They want me for two more days as an extra on the Jimi Hendrix film! Yay!!! So of course I accepted and will be fitted on Friday! So there will be more posts soon about the fitting and the work days. May be one or two work days they said, but definitely there will be one!! Woohoo! Which means.. Money for me! Yay! So happy for that! Because being here in London really takes a bite out of your wallet!! So that's really all the news I can offer at the moment! But let me leave you with a few tips!!: 1. Always answer your phone if you can 2. If you miss a phone call and you know the number or they leave a message then always call back! It could be work! Don't assume they will call again! 3. Apparently, Not all work calls will come in during work/ daytime hours, ie, 9-6. Some, apparently come later! This is the second time I've had a phone call after 6pm! The first time was from the lovely Marie Caffrey to offer me the part of Niamh Keegan in Cuckoo! (I just thought I'd throw that tip in as I naturally assumed all job calls would come during the day! So maybe others thought this too! Well! There you go, apparently not.) And 4. This is important. If you are an extra for anything, if you are in the background, try not to have your face seen! I know it's a lovely thing when you can see yourself in a movie, but some companies use the same people if they are pressed for time or in emergencies. So.. They will go through the film and see if your face is seen, if it is, no more work in that movie for you. If not, then you may be called for another days work or two! I know someone who got two weeks on vexed! Different looks and no real head shots. Ka-Ching!!! X So I hope this was interesting and a little helpful! X thanks for reading! Please follow or comment! X Peach out!

Finally: being an extra on the Jimi hendrix film in dublin part 2

Sooo.. I know this a long time coming! oops! sorry! I went to London this week so I guess my mind was a little preoccupied.

I was called for work at 9.30am which I thought was a reasonable call time considering that normally these things could start very early!

I was sent straight up to the lovely Tamzin and Susan (Tamzin dressed me on my day at Titanic Blood and Steel so it was nice to see a familiar face!) And got fitted in my lovely blue fitted high waisted trousers, orange blouse, black stripy shoes, and a cool navy and orange patent leather rain mac! Gorgeous! So then it was down to hair and make up, which was a simple teasing of the back of my hair, middle parting and some hair spray, and also some foundation, mascara and some brown shadow in the crease of my eye. Just an every day normal chick on the town in the evening in the 60's in London.

Then we had to wait..  and wait.. and yes... wait! It wasn't until 12 o'clock that we were brought to set and given some umbrellas! We were greeted by the AD's and one of them (Richie) had worked on Titanic Blood and Steel too so another familiar face!! (I think you're starting to see this industry is extremely small1!) But the weather was horrible!! Really nasty rain and wind!! Ick!!

so basically the whole day consisted of walking up and down the street past a window of a bookshop, while Andre 3000 and Ruth Negga were inside shooting. I did get to see both stars and said hello to Ruth. (she's so friggin lovely and beautiful!)

Then after a while we were sent to the dining bus for shelter, then brought back and did the same thing! (another extra and I even did a little work as stand ins for Ruth and another very beautiful and young actress with I'm guessing indian heritage! she was gorgeous!)

Then we broke for lunch (fish and chips or a hand burger or veggie curry) Lovely! and some coffee cake afterwards! yum yum!

The day was great and the extras that were inside the book shop got to meet Andre as he shook their hand and said thanks. He seemed very lovely and very genuine.. so I was told! I unfortunately never met him but he was very close to me several times! ha!

It was a great days work and I quite enjoyed it.  I must say that it's such a difference from being Cast and being an Extra. Not that there is anything wrong with being an extra, because I loved it!!!

but the only downside was that the weather was rubbish and the umbrellas just kept up-turning because of the bad wind. 3-4 hours in the rain and wind, but I loved it!

I must say, I think it's more because of the bad weather, but the people on the street were very ill tempered because they just wanted to get indoors! We needed to stop them for a few minutes on either side of the road as we were filming and they didn't look very sixties! With their nokias and haversacks and pikachu umbrellas!! ha! But I think they were more unwilling due to the weather. I'd like to think they aren't always that narky... :)

so yes there you are! thats my day!!

oooh... Audition tomorrow!!! Excited! fingers crossed I hope I get it! xx

Hello lovelies! Tomorrow I'm going to be doing a bit of work as an extra in the new jimi Hendrix film that is filming in Dublin! And it's of course, a period film set in the late 60's! Cuckoo episode 3 & 4 pictures from set!

So we started shooting the last two episodes of the web series Cuckoo on Friday and my what a journey! It's Sunday now and I'm writing this from set in the middle of the shoot. We are nearly 4 hours behind schedule because I've discovered it is extremely difficult to work in a shipping centre! As there are all sorts of issues! Continuity, audio and mostly people staring straight into camera! So it put us behind a lot. But so far so good! We've got an incredible team of people working with us to get these two episodes done and finish the series!

We are working hard and at all possible hours to get this finished and then.. That's a wrap! We probably won't wrap until about 11 tonight but it'll all be worth it! I can't wait to post all four episodes on this site to show you all what I've been working for! And what we have achieved on a very small budget in a short amount of time!

Here are some pics from set!!! Hope you've enjoyed the Cuckoo journey!! We wrapped just after 11 but unfortunately there was still one scene we needed to do, and we will have to come back to that in a few weeks time! Oh well!! I look forward to it and for everyone that worked on this series, I thank you all for your hard work and support during this process!

Thank you all! here are some pictures from the set of the third and fourth episodes!

Enjoy!!

sorry I know its been a while...

So guys for those of you who read this blog, perhaps you find it interesting and perhaps you're just passing through but either way I appreciate it!

So there has been nothing... like... NOTHING! I can literally see the tumble weed pass me by! Acting work has been so slow! and even my agent is trying but there is just nada... sake!!!

So while I'm clawing my hair out with all the nothing to do but wait for my phone to ring or an email to come.. I am focusing on my body! I have decided I need to loose at least 8kgs (I'm 55kgs right now) and I want to be under 50 but I thought if I aim for 8kgs and only reach a 5kg weightless it's better than aiming for something smaller and getting a small result! And how am i going to do this you ask?

glad you asked! well, I plan to do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred at least twice or three times a week, but thats not all... I'm also joining a boxercise club on sat mornings and a kick-boxercise club on monday nights, wednesday and thursday mornings!!! Oh yes! these boxercise and kick-boxercise boast to burn 600-800 calls in one session! So you know that I gotsta get me some of this!!!!

so I'm tracking my weight and from now on I'll update this blog with weight posts as well as with any acting posts!!

OOh... and CUCKOO didn't get through to the third round of RTE Storyland unfortunately! But we have decided to complete the series anyway with the help of everyone involved! RTE support us but don't fund us so we're raising the money ourselves. However once the last two episodes are filmed they will feature on RTE's website! so yay!!!

We start shooting next weekend from the 18-20 May in Dublin, Ireland... It's going to be tough doing two episodes in three days as usually it's only one in that amount of time. I get to work more with Denise McCormack (Who won the best supporting actress IFTA recently) so I can't wait to work with her and hopefully get some tips! x

So I will post some pictures and behind the scenes footage maybe! for now though here are the links to the two episodes and you can find some behind the scene footage on the Cuckoo youtube channel! so for now I hope you all enjoy the links below! and maybe comment and let me know what you think? feedback is great! although don't go too hard please, I'm only starting out an honestly I think I learn from each episode so I think my acting is way better in the second episode than it is in the first! so yea...

here you go!!!

Hey all!! a beauty review!

So I'm finally going to start doing some beauty and fashion reviews on here, because I think an actor should always look their best, whether going for an audition or just hanging out! My blog will, in the future, feature some great styles inspired by TV shows I'm currently loving or movies that inspire me!! I think the most important feature about you as an actor, is your skin. So today I'm reviewing skin products which may help you achieve better looking and feeling skin.

But today is not that day! Today I will be reviewing the face cleaning products I was given for christmas that I haven't really used properly until now! so here they are!

The Avene face routine!!!

Ok so! here are my views on this set that I received from my lovely aunt for christmas!

Mist.

This is the first product on the left. I love it! You spray it on your face and leave for a minute, then pat dry. The mist is pure thermal water so it really is soothing. It isn't only for your face either! I shaved my legs a couple of days ago and whatever soap or razor I had used really irritated the skin on my legs. I simply sprayed a little of the mist on to them and within ten minutes I found my irritation had calmed way down!!! Instantly after spraying though because it's a mist and it's cold you are soothed due to the moisture and temperature of the spray. It just took about ten minutes for my irritation to calm down.
I would definitely rate the mist at a 4/5.

Cleanser.

I love the cleanser as it is really gentle! At first I was not so sure about it as it felt a little heavy when I put it on my face! but nope! i was wrong! the Cleanser is so easy to put on and feels silky and soothing.

For any of you that don't know, Avene is a french brand that incorporates the us of avene thermal spring water for the use on sensitive and irritated skins. That is why I find the cleanser so soothing! The cleanser rids me of nearly all my makeup (sometimes I have very stubborn mascara!) and makes my skin feel very smooth and clean.  I would definitely rate this cleanser a 4/5.

Extremely rich compensating cream.

The 'rich compensating cream' however, I am not fond of. It feels very thick on my skin (which is mostly dry) but even on my dry skin the cream made me break out the first time I used it, as it just felt heavy and blocked my pores. I do use this cream sometimes but only on occasions when my skin is scarily dry and flakey and I use it sparingly.
So this cream only gets a 2/5.

Overall I think I'd have to give this set a 3.5/5. The cream is too heavy and at first so was the cleanser. Now I find myself using the cleanser more and more, and I'm in love with the mist spray.

Does anyone else have these products? what do you think? x

EASTER!!

Hey guys! so Easter was yesterday and I hope you all had a fabulous yummy chocolate filled day thing with like prayer and religion and stuff...

yeah..

ok! so I thought I'd show you guys some of the lovely things I got for easter! (YAY) so here are some yummy treats that filled my day and made me like three times the size I was on saturday!

Ok so My mother came back from London where she was visiting my aunt and grandmother and she brought me back lovely scrumptious fat goods to make me fat and stuff for easter!

Here it is! on the left we have a lovely white chic flower with milk chocolate and smartie type thing in the middle, then we have (my personal favorite) Roly's Fudge (walnut and maple flavor!.. oh god... so good...  just wanna.. aghhhhhhhshgdhgifgowehffh!) .. sorry I digress.. and then we have milk chocolate bunnies with "guess how much I love you on the top" cuteness!! x

PS I ate all that fudge yesterday!! ALL OF IT!!.. and it was SSSOOOO GOOD!!!!

Next we have a small host of little South African treats that my mother brought me back from the SA shop in Crawley.. i think it's in Crawley.. might not be...hmm...

Anyway! we've got some Beacon mallow eggs and a Cadbury's chomp! nom nom nom!!

And finally we have the Segsational..... (PUN!) Terry's chocolate Orange Segsations. Nom! My boyfriend and I got this for ourselves as we weren't gonna buy each other eggs and stuff, but seeing as we both like Terry's chocolates, this seemed like a win win situation right there.

They had dark chocolate, toffee crunch, normal, crispy crunch and a popping candy one! nom! all were very delicious!

So Those are just a few of my lovely little items I received yesterday! I have a few others including haribo and a giant nestle egg sitting here, awaiting the day that they will be eaten!! but for now, I've had my fill of chocolate and will probably be off chocolate for the next while...

In the meantime I'm going to work out and try and not be fat after all the chocolate consumption! ... god... with every bite my Jillian Micheal's DVD cried a little.. then it looked at me with a smirk and said "Oooh.. you're gonna pay for that"...

...

Shit.

So what did everyone else do for the lovely easter weekend? Eat lovely chocolate? Meet giant bunnies with large oversized chocolate eggs that are just illogical and impractical??! xx

Spartacus Vengence Season Finale

OH MY GOD!!!

With amazing writers and amazing actors, Sparatcus Vengence never seems to fail. Although admittedly some of the episodes in the series were, lets say just lacking something, I still loved the series! Of course it is always hard to come back from something such as the loss of an amazing actor Andy Whitfield, while there are still seasons to shoot. However I think Liam McIntyre did a good job trying to keep the essence of Sparatcus and Whitfield alive.

The romans are by far my favorite character I think, especially Lucy Lawless' Lucretia and Viva Bianca's Ilithyia. The two women do nothing but plot and spew venom that is so ghastly and awful, we just love to hate them! Lucy Lawless has an amazing presence on screen and shows nothing but power and grace. The power relation between the two women change from time to time depending on how much leverage one hold above the other.

In the season finale however, leverages seem broken and Lawless comes through with her character's true intentions!!! Amazing!

I can totally understand all the hype about Spartacus and it's epic battles and plot lines. Most say it's nothing but soft core porn and blood effects... this is not entirely false, but they do it incredibly well. they are trying to display an image of sexuality  that was the roman way, where there was no sensitivity about sex and who it was with. The plot is the overall winner however, as though you can have as many sex scenes and gore scenes (sometimes at the same time! or consecutively!) the plot will always change emotions and heighten your experience!

Out of the three series my favorite most probably would have had to be Gods of the Arena, because the plot line is thicker and more venomous! I did love Andy Whitfield as Spartacus in the first two seasons so it was harder for me to watch vengeance without him and without concentrating on the fact that, in my mind, this is not 'Spartacus'. Like I said though, McIntyre does his very best and I don't think any one else could have replaced Whitfield as successfully.

The other change of actor in this series was that of the character Naevia. Orignally played by the stunning Lesley-Ann Brandt, she was replaced by Cynthia Addai-Robinson... which I think left much to be desired. I effectively hated every scene she was in. She didn't look right for the part, she didn't act well enough to compete with the others and so I am sorry to say that for me, that was an extremely bad choice to make. It's not that I hate the actor, please don't assume that, I'm sure she's great, but as Naevia she really didn't fit for me and the other actors (especially the females) seemed to stand apart from her. So unfortunately losing two actors in this series puts it as my least favorite on my list.

What did you guys think of Spartacus? Like it? Love it? Hate it? x

Out of a job

So Cuckoo didn't get enough votes to make it into the next round on RTE... oh well. What can you do? We tried our best and we just didn't get the votes we needed.

I personally think they should have a panel of judges rather than using Facebook to vote but hey ho, thats the way it goes!

So now I'm out of the job and still hoping someone somewhere someday will hire me for something big! In the meantime I'm doing my best to juggle college assignments and get a showreel done! I have a few clips from Cuckoo but nothing too long to go on as they were only 6 min episodes each so a lot of the shots are just one liners or reaction shots. So I'm looking for monologues to film in my mate's college in their studio! Which I am so hoping will work out. There is a great little place in Pearse Street called 'shoot auditions' where they charge 50 euro per monologue... which I think is a bit ridiculous! they should charge 50 euro per hour in the studio! because think how many monologues you can do in an hour!! gosh.. so If i am really and truly stuck and my agent pushes me for any material whatsoever then I think I'll have no choice but to head in and do one or two monologue.

Perhaps I'll try film one today on my computer in my garden, considering that the weather has been so beautiful the last few days here in Ireland. but alas there are always going to be background noises, cars, people, gates and doors and windows opening and closing and with this lovely weather comes the sounds of summer; children playing and the nostalgic sound of lawn mowers!

Anyways, as soon as I have some interesting bits of monologues I will put them up here and post them on youtube to get to hear your views on whether or not they should go on my showreel.

Okey doke, I better get back to my assignments. In the next few days I will probably post some 'philosophical'-'lifestyle' type posts which would just really be my thoughts and ramblings. So please stay tuned!

Best of luck to all you actors out there! keep living the dream!

Cuckoo Round 2!

Gosh It's been ages since I last posted and I apologize, I have been snowed under with work!!

So on to Cuckoo Round 2!! We finished filming the second episode this weekend and honestly I'm so excited for it to be edited and shown because I have learned so much that I feel will really stand to me when it comes to acting.

Dannan Breathnach and I on the set of Cuckoo... on a cold Monday morning... looking badass...

Ok so in the first episode I overacted a little... ok a lot... but the reason for this is it was my first shot at it. And I'm so used to Theatre that I feel like I just over acted in order to really get my feelings across, when really on camera it's all about being natural and having the looks behind your eyes rather than overly obvious. So this is what I worked on. The eyes.. although I'll admit that in itself was tough considering I'm wearing glasses. And a lot of the time I had to exaggerate things as a moody 17year old would do.. the little drama queen!

I love Niamh Keegan. She's such a drama queen and is mortified and embarrassed by her parents at every outing. She is desperate in her need for attention and a place to fit in and seeks it in the arms of Tina Vickers.. Niamh's suspected mother.

Back in Niamh's bedroom...

This episode is a step up from the first as we see Niamh fantasize a bit about the life she could have had or the slightly bizzare sequences she wishes could be reality. I really thinks this adds a lot to the episodes as we can really understand the inner workings of Niamh...

We shot in Ranelaigh on Sat and Sunday and then in Stillorgan on Monday. Now Obviously I can't write about everything we did because you'll have to wait and see the next episode! But it was long hours and the days were tiring as we changed angles and scenes and costume. All worth it tho hopefully and I'm sure our efforts will not have gone to waste. It's so wonderful to work on set as I am learning so much every single time. I learn more about lighting and the camera angles and how to keep going when something goes wrong.

I absolutely loved working with everyone involved, we had a great new crew this time round with some of the old familiar faces! and I'm so happy to be a part of this project! Be sure to vote for us when it comes out! xxx

Although it's hard work I love every minute of it! This is my career, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life!!! So I try my best to behave and be as great as possible to work with because I know that it's hard for everyone involved when there is a time limit and a budget for these kinds of projects! I absolutely loved working with Brian, Orla, Jeff and Denise. I didn't get to work much with Denise in the last episode so this time it was so amazing to get to work with her because I know that I can learn so much from her.

Anyways, enough rambling... Post ya next time when the project is out (19th March)

Peach out! x

Other actors

I recently saw a production of TWO in UCD which had stunning performances by two of the most talented actors I have had the pleasure to see perform. And this made me seriously contemplate my own abilities as an actor. I keep away from the negatives of 'she was so amazing.. Why can't I be like that!' or 'she's a better actress than I am'.... Now, she is. Way better. But that's not negative to me. Because I accept the fact that I am not as talented as others. And she really works hard. The play consists of a multitude of Characters performed by two actors. They each need to portray 6 characters, each with their own accents and personalities. So instead of getting bogged down in the negative 'she's better than me' I focus on how can I learn from her. She is honestly amazing and I draw inspiration from her performance. How can I improve? How can I learn from this? And it's simple. Just keep trying. I work hard and now I'm spurred on to work harder for my dreams and I hope one day I'll see her at the oscars! TWO currently runs in UCD dramsoc theatre from 7pm until Friday. Directed by Eoghan Carrick, starring Benji Waddell and Caitriona Ennis.

Motortown and Cuckoo...

So for the last week I have been involved in UCD Dramsoc's production of Simon Stephen's "Motortown". My character is Jade and actually I didn't find myself doing a lot of research for this role.

Jade is a 14 year old girl from London and she is going out with a grown man in his late 20's or early 30's. She left school and chose not to do high school (6th Form) and is now spending her days in Paul's flat and dreaming of one day going back to school.

Motortown is a play centered around an ex-soldier's return home after being in Basra. Although not all together sane before the war, Danny (the ex-soldier) is a man that returns to his him win Essex, damaged.

Jade and Danny first meet in Paul's flat when Danny looks to get a disused gun altered to fire live ammo. A Few days later Danny kidnaps Jade in the hopes that she will restore his faith and respect in Humanity. The scene doesn't end well, and He proceeds to torture her, burning her hand with a cigarette, hitting the sole of her foot with the end of his gun, placing the gun right by her mouth and then finishing it off by pouring petrol over her and shooting her.

The scene is intense and I am in floods of tears almost constantly throughout it. I can tell you it is no easy job crying every single night for 5 nights. And it's exhausting!! it's so tiring because honestly I am so emotionally and physically drained and have been like this for the whole week. However you just get through.

Now, my trick is, I am freezing cold on stage. I have a blood pack attached to my back and that adds more to lowering my body's temperature. I am actually shivering on stage and even while I sit at the side of the stage waiting for my scene my body is shaking all over. And I find this actually really helps frame my mind. Because the shivering helps my body focus on being cold and then in my scene the shivering turns to fear and this helps me cry each night.

At one point Danny asks Jade to take her jacket off and takes a picture of her on his camera phone. This also helps me cry because their is sever emotional significance in removing an item of clothing and being made vulnerable. So I focus on her vulnerability.

During rehearsals I never fully did the scene with all my emotional energy because honestly if you over do a scene the emotion on stage won't have that authentic effect. so that is also key, if your scene is extremely emotional or traumatizing then it's best to leave most of your emotional connection to it until the dress rehearsal or first night. Always give about 50% in rehearsal if you're supposed to be crying. I find this helps and if the director understands then thats an added bonus. If the director asks you to put full emotion in, then do it. He/she is the director after all.

Ok so there are my tips for crying on stage in some sort of traumatic scene, I find being cold to the point of shivering helps me a lot to prepare for a scene, also try and keep focus on why you are crying, what has brought you to this point. Why are you afraid? How did the unwritten scene before your scene play out? (e.g. in Motortown, the scene where Danny kidnaps Jade or forces her to go with him is unwritten, and so I think about how it would feel to be forced into a car with a much older man, a stranger and being brought somewhere you didn't even know existed)

If you loose focus waiting for your scene, concentrate on your breathing or press your thumb to your middle finger of each hand, because it helps you concentrate and bring your mind back to the present and the task at hand.

Now on to Cuckoo, my RTE Storyland competition entry.

I watched it the morning it came out, Monday 13th of Feb... and well... my verdict is.. I overact. but I would love the chance to learn how to bring it back  few notches. and I can only do this with the second episode so I need everyone's votes to get us through to the next round.

Basically the story is about a teenager, Niamh Keegan, who feels like she doesn't fit in anywhere. and One day she see's a digitally enhanced photograph of what a missing child would look like today. It looks an awful lot like Niamh and this gives her reason to feel like she may actually have been kidnapped when she was younger by her current parents. ... Dun Dun Duuun!!

I know, whats with all the kidnapped characters? ... i dunno.. all I know is that we need your votes so...

well..

ok so nothing new! I had my first audition of 2012! yay! thank God! I didn't get the part but at least I had an audition! And I'm so excited to get back into it! Now, I know I've said that I'd make a youtube video blog, however.. I'm a little weary about putting myself on youtube just yet so I thought I'd just post more here and see can I get more followers or visits here first and help you guys out!

Um, anyways, the audition went well and I think the casting director liked me which is great! and honestly sometimes it's not all about getting the job and it's more about making and impression on the people who audition you, because you may not be what they're looking for in terms of the character but you may be great for a part in the future or in another project that they're working on!

So here's my tip for today: Don't go in thinking you're going to be amazing and get the part because you deserve it. Go in with a smile and a positive attitude and think, I should get this part because this is my interpretation of the character and hopefully you like it. In the end though I think meeting the people and the casting directors is such a valuable experience.

Other than that I don't have any comments. I can't wait for the oscars this year though!!!! I hope Rooney Mara gets Best Actress, I know Meryl Streep will probably get it but I think that's just because she impersonates Margaret Thatcher very well, but honestly I think the emotional and physical challenge Rooney went through deserves the Oscar more! But we will see!

Anywho...

Bye for now!!

slow...

ugh!! I'm really feeling slow this january!! I've had no calls or potential auditions and I'm feeling the strain! I need my fix!!

So instead of acting all down and paranoid, i decided to post this! I am currently doing the performers project in college so at least I'm acting for 6 hours a week and getting the creative fluids flowing!! I am also doing the directing module, 2 hours a week and then on top of that a bit of Italian, Shakespeare (plays and films) and Crime literature! so yay! there is no time when my brain is not actively being creative!!

However, every single day I'm praying for a phone call or an email about an audition! Hoping that if not today then tomorrow... for something! anything! ... but alas, 19 days into January and still nothing. Well it is only 19 days into the new year and my last project was in december (or possibly nov!).. so it hasn't just been 19 days, it's been a good long haul since i had my last project and audition. And I'm feeling massive withdrawal symptoms.

But I guess while I'm out of work I can focus on other things. Such as:

1. My body. I have recently been trying to shovel less shite food down my throat and stick to all the healthy stuff! I've also been exercising loads, such as jogging in and out of college 4 days a week and then doing a workout by Jillian Michaels on the weekend or some evening during the week (maybe even twice a week) when i can. So that if I am called for an audition for anything, at least I know I'm healthy and comfortable with my body! I Don't really diet as much as I exercise, which is a faux-pas because it's the combination of the two that'll get you fit and healthy quicker! But I sorta believe that you should eat whatever you want to eat, just don't go chomping down mounds of chocolate cake every chance you get! I eat quite well, although it's my first week back at college and I haven't found the time to go shopping for healthy food yet, but once I settle back into being in Dublin then I'll get a system going and start eating like a normal human being and put away the koka noodles!

2. Reading. I'm doing a lot of it for college and because it's mainly plays, I know that I'd have a good background knowledge of a lot of characters and stuff that could be relevant for inspiration for auditions. And since the film industry is recreating a lot of novels and the like, I feel it's a really good grounding for myself if I read more!! So I'm reading The Stieg Larsson novels, and the shakespeare plays (some of the less familiar ones) and Beckett and all sorts really! so yay for reading and widening my horizons! woohoo!!

3. Trying to find material for a showreel! These days it seems important to have bits of you on camera! so thats what I'm trying to do! get monologues or anything really to put on camera!!! But I tell you, finding the time and resources are a lot harder than it's made out!!! Luckily I've have the episode of Cuckoo to put on my showreel or put up as a clip in the meantime, while making a showreel... oh god..

4. Watching Grey's Anatomy... honestly one of the best shows ever made!! The script is amazing! some of the dialogue and the monologues in it are just heart wrenching! So I'm definitely going to try and get something from that to work into my showreel!!! yay!!!

Um... thats all for now i guess.. I have the workings of a youtube video that is going to be put up soon.. maybe next week about audition essentials and what i do for auditions and the like!!

Anyways thanks for reading my blog!!

The girl with the dragon tattoo!

Film of the month!!! Wow! Ok so I have just even to the cinema to see 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and I thought I had to blog about this before I forget how I feel! I have read the book beforehand and I have not yet seen the Swedish version of the film, and so here are my thoughts so far. The book was better, naturally. The film was consice and well made. But the best thing about that film visually was the opening credits! They had this crazy lil opening like a James bond film with flash images and oil and black and it was just epic! The film was well directed however, the sex scenes were a little graphic and unnecessary. I don't want to sound like one of those people who just don't like sex on screen but I think that was definitely verging on soft core porn and it wasn't neccessary to the plot, it could have been shot and edited in a different, less graphic style. And of course I have to mention the main inspiration for this post! Rooney Mara!!!!!! Holy crap that woman is definitely one of the best actresses I've seen in ages!! She'll go far and honestly deserves an oscar really... I just love her! She's definitely true to the book! 100% Lisbeth Salander! Amazing! Daniel Craig is great too of course, but Rooney's portrayal is amazing! Love her and I'll definitely be following her career! The other thing I want to mention is the accents. Inconsistent but I do find that movies definitely seem to be moving in that direction, where the script and plot are more important than the accents. Daniel Craig has an english accent and Stellan Skarsgard has a slight American accent and the rest use a Swedish accent. It didn't really matter to me to Be honest but it dies carry with it an jnconsistency in the film. The film was very good. Consice and some detail was left out, but that is obviously understandable and I don't think anything was drastically changed except Spoiler Alert!!!!! Look away now if you have not seen or read the book!!!!! ((actually I. Will post the spoiler thought at the end so those of you you haven't read it or seen the film yet don't have to cheat your eyes) So the movie in my view is a successful portrayal of the book! And Rooney Mara is awesome!!!! X definitely my pick for my movie of the month! Go see it!

 Peach out!!!

!!!!!!Spoiler thought!!!!!! The only thing drastically changed is Harriet banger is not in Australia. No mention of the ranch or business she runs down there. Go see it peeps! It is worth your while!

'Game of Thrones' and nudity

So recently I've been watching 'Game of Thrones' and before that I was a MASSIVE fan of 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' and also 'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena'.

These shows are incredible! Especially the Spartacus series, the acting is amazing and so is the plot, the visual effects and the dialogue. Epic isn't the word. Therefore I was a little taken aback by Game of Thrones, also HBO, but it is quite a lot different than Spartacus. I felt a little uneasy about the series in the beginning, partly because of the nudity. But then again I loved Spartacus which contains a lot of graphic scenes, however in Game of Thrones, the nudity was more... um.. raw I guess... It had more of a barbaric feel to it rather than the fantasy feel Spartacus had. But in Game of Thrones we aren't dealing with ancient  Rome, which is a romantic concept in itself, we are dealing with the Middle Ages in Westeros and Easteros.. it was just interesting.

However, the point of this blog is to discuss nudity. Recently and Irish actress left the set of 'Game of Thrones' because she was asked to undress. This is respectable to me, and I really admire her courage and sticking to her guns, because she claimed when she was given the part she was promised skin clothes for her breasts, but as she approached the set the director asked her to take her top off. She left, head held high and I respect her for it... HOWEVER, she should have researched that role a lot more before she took the part, she had no previous knowledge of the series or of HBO shows in general, which is partly her fault and in that detail, she loses me really. The show has a lot of sex and prostitutes and just very graphic sex scenes and actions, so I think if you got offered a role, she should have researched that more.

So lesson learned? Research your roles! If you get an audition, don't go in not knowing what you're dealing with! Always research and get to know what kind of direction you'll be dealing with and what kind of show you're going to potentially be a part of. Research the director and see what kind of work he/she does and prefers, this will definitely help you pick parts.

Me, personally I really don't have a problem with nudity, but primarily only upper body. And only if it's tastefully done. I'm not saying that the 'Game of Thrones' has tasteless nudity because that's not true, it's just very raw for my taste, so provided I wouldn't have to do full body nudity, I don't know if I'd have that much of a problem. Someone told me recently that unfortunately nudity is something expected nowadays in young aspiring actresses. I don't agree with that statement because I think that it is more the style of television today that is exploring the body but it's not expected from young actors, it's put to them, but they can turn it down. It's not as if you can't or won't get jobs because you don't want to act nude.  What are your opinions on this? Nudity in today's acting world? Would you do it?

Thats it for now, but lots more to come as the year unfolds.. one week at a time..

Peach

Ps: Love the 'Game of Thrones' and 'Spartacus' series! Cannot wait for the new ones to begin!!!

working out and twitter

I have just finished working out because as part of my new year career plan, I've got to get my body in shape! Because honestly I just feel better when I like the look of myself you know? and I feel sexier and more confident! Also I think having your body in top condition in this industry is a necessity unfortunately, so I plan to work out, very hard to get the body I want.

The workout I do is at home (for the moment, before college starts where I will either join a sports club or the gym) is Jillian Michaels "30 day shred" I do this because the exercises are 20 mins and so they're fast and easy to fit into my day! I bought the DVD through amazon.co.uk for about 7 euro and the reason for this is because I used to watch The Biggest Loser and the woman gets results! she's not playing around!

It'll take a little bit of time to get me in tip-top shape but I really don't mind. I quite like doing it, it's just the moment before doing it I hate, the moment you decide to work out, it's never easy because you always seem to feel like saying "oh I'll just do it tomorrow" but as Ben Franklin says "Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today"... The man discovered electricity, you'd think people would pay more attention!

So as tired and worn out as I am ( I know you don't think 20 mins could be that bad, but believe me, it's Jillian Michaels, they are!!) I decided to write to the people who read this, who I am grateful to because otherwise i'm a lil freak talking to myself!

Which brings me to my next topic, twitter.. ah twitter.. I did actually have an account before hand and I deleted it because i didn't find it useful at all, but i recently joined it (recently like today!) again, and I will try to keep up with it a little more. I found Kevin Zegers twitter, which i'm not sure is real or fake so I commented and now I'm concerned that it probably is the real Kevin and he will think  I'm a psycho stalker... oh well... I guess I am, but not in a totally psycho demented please-talk-to-me-you're-so-cool-and-in-movies kinda way, I just find it extremely interesting to talk to other actors. I always have been. Even my co-stars in 'Lay Me Down Softly', especially Leslie McGuire and Simone Kirby, I'd always be asking them questions, like interviewing them, because I find it really interesting! I enjoy listening to people's stories from set of movies or TV programs, and I enjoy listening to them talk about the people they have worked with or met over the years, because I want to one day be able to tell the same stories.

So maybe I'm a little bit of a freak...hmm.. may work on trying to be that little bit more normal this year. Gosh this post turned out to be a bit humiliating didn't it? well, there ya go. For those of you who read this, I'm not a psycho stalker egotist, but a person who enjoys being in contact with other actors and listening to them...

shit.. do i need help? anybody?

New year!

So there is a lot to look forward to this year! The Titanic series should be out soon, great new host of movies to watch and hopefully this will be a good year for my career!

I don't really have many new years resolutions, but one of them is definitely to start working out again as I think in this business having a good healthy body and healthy skin is half the battle! I have also promised myself to practice my accents and try and learn new ones and get even more comfortable with the old ones!!

So the accents i need to master this year include: cork, northern irish, galway (general west of ireland) and dublin. This is because I'm pretty shite at the irish accents in general, even though i speak with a southern Irish accent/ south african twinge! I am not at all good at the west of ireland accent so I plan to try out the galway accent as much as I can!! Therefore, I'll be reading many monologues and parts of Martin McDonagh's plays!!

For the cork accent I'll be reading The Playboy of The Western World by Synge, so that I can understand more about the accent and how it's supposed to sound, also I'll re-read one of my favorite plays, Disco Pigs by Enda Walsh (amazing!!) to get more of the rich cork accent as it's written phonetically.

For the northern Irish accent I'll be taking a look at "Breakfast on Pluto" and "Mickeybo and Me" two amazing films with very heavy northern Irish accents!

also I'm going to try on the English accents, the county specific accents, such as essex and cornwall and devon and RP. This I'll do by surfing the net and talking to my english mates about their ideas about what other areas of england sound like. x

I'm also currently in a play in dramsoc already called Motortown which has me as a 14-16 year old girl from Essex who is kidnapped and tortured and killed. I am so excited to play this role as I have never portrayed fear on stage and so i'm looking forward to exploring that to the very depths of my character!

I'll let you guys know more as the rest of 2012 happens! For now I hope you all had a lovely christmas and a great new year!! x
